Round Earth League on Hiatus

Round Earth League, in its present incarnation, is no longer an actively updated blog. You can leave comments, but don't expect quick replies. Dcarto still updates his own blog, so navigate over there to see what he has. Slomo has flown off the radar, probably doing something constructive, and me (wally)? I'm too active in other online communities to keep this one regularly updated.

That said, check out the links to other websites as these are still great sources of information. I may post here in the future, but on different topics. This started as a predominantly political blog frustrated like many with the direction of the country, but that landscape (thank goodness) has changed, so there are many other places to get opinions and information better than here on that score.

That's all,

Wally Out and wally4media very active elsewhere.

James Baker III on assignment to help George II clean up his mess in Iraq

Knowing when to call daddy's friends for help is priceless. Of course "dubya" is a slow learner, calling his daddy's friend James Baker III several years too late, in the process costing America half a trillion dollars.

Why didn't they do this sooner? I think it's because a lot of this war money is going to George W's friends. It's not like getting drunk and wrecking the lamborghini. Someone else has to pay for the mess, and it's going to be the American People. Maybe the war really is starting to sting the GOP politically and the money machine might be taken away from them if they don't do something? That can be quite the motivator.

At first I sighed with relief when I read this article, that maybe this administration is trying to figure out a way to end the war. Baker is not one of the usual incompetents. I wonder though, can Baker III be trusted now with having the interests of the American People in mind after doing this work? Or how about this?

Kansas' contribution to world culture

An american geographer has shown that Kansas is flatter than a pancake. It was the setting of the movie "the day after" and Cousin Eddie. And now there's the Westboro Baptist Church. So many people want to put a wall on the Mexican border, maybe there should be a wall in front of whatever is making this.

Why bikes are cool

Treehugger.com had a blog entry recently that asked people to send pictures of celebrities riding bikes. Hollywood "entertainment" usually portrays people who ride bikes as losers, but in reality some cool and very fashionable people use them all the time to get around in a pollution free way.

It's my own feeling that life is too short and precious not to ride a bicycle.

I really like this video blog by Daryl Hannah about bicycling, it about sums up all that is wonderful about urban riding. I never thought I would have this much in common with celebrity types, and these blogs make them seem like they are actually interesting people.

Michael Schiavo says the culture war ain't over 'til it's over

A post today in the daily kos by Michael Schiavo, remember him, the husband from the media circus here in the Untied States. It's basically telling Joe Lieberman and people like him where they can shove it. I don't know much about his PAC but I like the concept and think this country needs a republicandectomy.

Before it's too late. It took the fall of France before Neville Chamberlain finally was removed from the job.

Mediterranean's worst environmental disaster

Sometimes your tax dollars are used to clean up after oil spills, and sometimes they are used to create them. That's what happened when Israel bombed a Lebanese power plant, creating the worst oil spill in the history of the Mediterranean Sea. 10,000 to 15,000 metric tons have spilled into the Mediterranean so far.

The American taxpayer generously supports Israel's military, which is sometimes used to drop internationally banned cluster bombs on civilians, and white phosphorus. Right now the Bush Administration is rushing more bombs to Israel so it can use them to attack dangerous future terrorists (Lebanese children).

Did Hizbollah really attack Israel?

This Associated Press article, and there are others like it, say that the Israeli soldiers were actually in Lebanese territory when they were abducted. I'm going to have to check into this some more.

There's an election coming up in America, so it's war season.

How many times have countries wanted to go to war, so they make up that they're being attacked or threatened and then they can get the war going? Let's see, there's the USS Maine, and the Gleiwitz Incident. The annexation of Hawaii. The threat to American medical students in Grenada. Let's not forget the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, and now the fictional Weapons of Mass Destruction. How many can you count?

More on the Passion of the Creep

This Anti-semitic Pottymouth Road Warrior thing is starting to really zing around the information ocean. This website has a link to the actual police report written when Gibson was apprehended for being a dangerous potential child-killer by driving while having drunk alcohol. If he owns half of Malibu like he says, he should be responsible enough to hire a driver. Who would Jesus run over on his way home from the bar?

The passion of the creep

Mel Gibson is pulled over in Malibu for driving drunk. Then he starts in with the anti-semitic remarks and threats against officers. You really have to read this. Did you ever doubt that's what this jerk is all about? It's a shame his mugshot won't be released because people should see what this man really is.
